BEAVERTON – Friends of Calhoun Park now have some more funds to work with in order to make some upgrades to the park and campground, thanks to some help from the City of Beaverton. Janet Whitmer, with the help and support of city officials, submitted grant requests to fund a much-needed renovation to the bathhouse at the Calhoun Park Campground.

The structure, built in 1991, is in need of updating and repairs. In addition to the renovations, the plan also includes a small addition to the building for housing a water softener system and extra room for storage of supplies and equipment. Re-roofing the building is also part of the renovation. The funding received to date includes: $20,000 from the Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation; $5,000 from the Midland Area Community Foundation; and $7,000 from the Gladwin County Endowment Fund.

“This generous support is proof of the continuous giving that our community receives from the people of Midland and Gladwin Counties,” noted organizers in a written statement. “The City of Beaverton and Friends of Calhoun Park wish to thank the many people who donate to the community foundations and to the generosity and leadership that the Gerstacker and Dow Foundations have shown our town over the years. We encourage individuals to give to the local foundations. This giving helps to make a positive difference for all of us in our communities.”
